Formula Fashion -Innovative Design Inspired by Motor Sport

22 Aug 2011 - 5 Sept 2011

Art, motorsport and leather collide in this innovative exhibition which celebrates Northamptonshire's motorsport and leather heritage. Each of the specially commissioned art works in the exhibition has been inspired by the technology, design, iconography and culture of motorsport.

Bringing together top national and international designers, the exhibits on show will include: a stunning Ducatti yellow 'transmorphic' outfit by conceptual fashion-designer Jo Cope; a pair of leather dresses inspired by the Silverstone racing track by Kei Ito; a bespoke shoe that captures the unique processes and aesthetics of cutting-edge motor vehicle engineering by Marloes Ten Bhomer; a lazer etched, leather wall panel by Genevieve Bennet exploring velocity and acceleration; and an intricately hand-cut, goat leather jacket by Aasen Stephenson decorated with the names of past Formula 1 winners.

Formula Fashion is a part of Igniting Ambition East Midlands 2011 (part of the Cultural Olympiad) and is a partnership between the iconic Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Enterprise, South Northamptonshire Council, The University of Northampton (incorporating the School of the Arts) and Design Factory.
